Jason Smith from Sittingbourne arrested after Gillingham train attack

A man has been charged in connection with assaults on two off-duty police officers on a high speed train travelling between Gillingham and Rainham.

The charges came after a public appeal for information by the British Transport Police (BTP), after the alleged assaults on two officers on Tuesday, December 11.

Jason Smith, 23, of Newbridge Avenue, Sittingbourne, has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Smith is due to appear before magistrates in Medway on Monday, April 15.

A 19-year-old woman from Gillingham, also arrested in connection with the incident will face no further action.
