Jimmy Carr took a swipe at a town with a cheeky tweet ahead of his show.

The comedian, known for his cutting remarks, posted a picture of clothes shop Posh, in Chatham High Street, with the caption, "POSH...in Chatham? Never.

I think they’ve just misspelled ‘SHOP’"

His remark sparked delight with social media users, earning his tweet 1.7k likes.

Many Twitter users were quick to respond with a picture of when the neighbouring shop was amusingly called Init.

They also warned him to steer clear of notorious beggar Billy the Quid, when out and about in the high street.

Jimmy Carr was in Chatham for his Terribly Funny Tour

Jimmy Carr was in the town on Thursday for his Terribly Funny UK tour.

He performed to crowds at the Chatham Central Theatre.

However, Jimmy is not the only comedian to make a pop at Chatham.

Julian Clary said visiting Chatham 'scarred him for life'.

In January Julian Clary called Chatham made derogatory remarks after performing at the central theatre.

He told the KMs Velvet Magazine "I don't play Chatham any more because it's a s**t hole.

When asked to explain why, he added: "They didn’t laugh. Fifteen years ago, it was. Scarred me for life."
