Bedford Scientific and Fountain Workshop share top honours at the Medway Business Awards

Two Medway firms have achieved a unique award-winning double.

For the first time since 1984, when the Medway Business Awards were founded, the Medway Business of the Year accolade was shared.

Bedfont Scientific, from Rochester, and The Fountain Workshop, based in Chatham Historic Dockyard, both stepped up to the podium to receive an engraved glass trophy.

Judges said they were both so impressive that it was impossible to split them. They were among 11 finalists hailed at a gala dinner in Priestfield Stadium banqueting suite, Gillingham, hosted by BBC television presenter Rob Smith.

Bedfont Scientific makes breath analysis equipment that improves people's health and save lives, while The Fountain Workshop designs and manufactures high-quality fountains for clients across the world.

Cllr Jane Chitty, portfolio holder for strategic development and economic growth for Medway council, one of the award sponsors, praised the finalists for their faith and courage in challenging times, and all businesses for "contributing to the economy and wellbeing of Medway."

Other special prizes went to Motorbitz Motor Parts (New to Medway Award), Allbits Plumbing and Bathroom Supplies (Medway family business) and Westwell Developments (Manufacturing in Medway).
