Strong winds force kayaker to take refuge on Nore Mash Island on the River Medway at Gillingham.

A kayaker who had taken refuge on an island in the River Medway during a strong winds was rescued by the Sheerness RNLI lifeboat crew.

The man, who was in his mid 20s dialed 999 shortly after 12.15pm yesterday (Tuesday) during the adverse weather conditions.

The RNLI Sheerness all weather lifeboat.

The lifeboat crew were sent out to Nore Marsh Island, near Riverside Country Park in Gillingham, and brought the kayaker, and his craft back to Gillingham.

The man, who was from Maidstone was then met by the Medway Coastguard team who helped him ashore.
