A giant new builders' trade warehouse is set for its grand opening next week.

Ahead of the new Selco branch on the Medway City Estate – which is the company's first branch in Kent – and KentOnline was given an exclusive sneak peek at the new store.

With 15,000 different products ranging from paints, sealants, timber, insulation, roofing, plumbing, electrics and many more tools of the trade, branch manager Mat Brice says the team can't wait to get started.

The building is part of the new M2CityLink development – a £24 million estate which also features a Sainsbury's and Argos distribution centre and Furth warehouse.

Work started on the estate last summer and in nine weeks, the Selco team has kitted out the huge unit with products ahead of its opening on Monday.

It is open to builders and trades or registered companies such as hospitals, schools, landlords and shoppers must have a registered trade card with Selco.

Mat said: "In terms of the stock holding for this branch we're at 1.2 million and that's building nicely across 15,000 products.

"It's great to be coming to the Medway Towns and complementing the Orpington store which opened last year.

"There's a massive range of products and services for the trade and we're looking forward to getting open."

This includes a click and deliver, click and collect, kitchen design, paint mixing and a host of others.

The new store has created 30 new jobs which Mat says 80% of which have been filled by people from the nearby towns.

The company has also set up a scheme to support community groups within the area and Mat says he's hoping to help plenty during the store's lifetime.

"We do a lot of work with local communities and with our new store opening and £1,000 goes to Selco Stars – any community in the area we'll look to help as best we can.

"That continues when we're trading and look to help where we can."

Mat added: "Ultimately our unique selling point is our people. We have some great people that customers trust and gain great relationships and then comes the loyalty.

"The whole people buy from people and relationships is what sets us from the competition."
