Knifepoint robbers makes off with cash from Betfred betting shop in Rainham Road, Chatham

The manager of a bookies was threatened at knifepoint and forced to hand over cash.

The robbery happened at the Betfred betting shop in Rainham Road, Chatham, when the manager was threatened by three robbers who entered the shop last night.

The robbers, three masked men, entered the shop, next to The Old Ash Tree pub about 9.30pm and then made off with almost £1,000.

The manager, a 28-year-old man was not injured during the raid, but the masked-thugs did threaten to stab him if he didn't hand over the cash.

It is understood the man was threatened with a large kitchen knife.

Vicki Foster, spokesman for police, said: "Kent Police is investigating a robbery reported at a shop in Rainham Road, Chatham, at around 9.30pm where three men are alleged to have threatened a staff member with a knife before stealing a quantity of money. Inquiries are ongoing."
