A number of people have been fined by Medway magistrates for travelling on the railway without paying the fare.

Southeastern says considerable amounts of money are lost through fare-dodging among a "small minority" of their passengers among the 170 million journeys each year.

Its website states: "This is...very unfair on the honest, paying majority. We are committed to ensuring all journeys are paid for. All passengers must have a valid ticket (or permit to travel) for their journey."

A public consultation has been launched on the aspirations for the future operator of the Southeastern franchise. Picture: Martin Apps
