Richard Miles of Village View, Chatham, charged with attempted robbery after incident at Village Off-Licence in Luton High Street

A man has been charged after allegedly arming himself with a knife and threatening a shop worker in an attempt to rob an off-licence.

Officers investigating the attempted robbery at the store in Chatham are appealing for witnesses.

Police say the man entered the shop at about 7.15pm on last Thursday, July 19, in Luton High Street and apparently threatened the cashier with a knife and demanded cash.

The incident happened at the Village Off Licence, in Luton High Street

He was then challenged by another member of staff and left the store empty handed, none of the shop workers were injured.

Officers have conducted multiple inquiries into the incident and have charged Richard Miles, 34, of Village View in Chatham, with attempted robbery and possessing a bladed article in a public place.

He appeared before magistrates in Medway and was remanded in custody and his case was sent to Maidstone Crown Court to be dealt with.

Miles is next due to appear there on Friday, August 17.

It is however believed there are a number of witnesses who saw the incident who have not yet spoken to detectives.
