Man charged after armed police arrest man near Saxon Way Primary School, Gillingham

A man has been charged following an incident in which an officer was allegedly threatened with an air gun.

Officers were carrying out a pre-planned home visit to the property of Keith Bell, in Ingram Road, Gillingham yesterday at 9am.

The situation escalated after the man allegedly pointed an air gun at a police officer.

Ingram Road and Church Street filled with armed police

Armed officers were then called to the scene, and a police helicopter was also deployed.

The 56-year-old was arrested and later charged with possession of an air gun with intent to cause fear and violence.

He was also charged with two counts of possessing cannabis.

The suspect has been bailed to attend Medway Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, July 30.
