Man charged in connection with alleged robberies in Strood

Police have charged a man after two reported robberies in Strood.

The first happened at around 3pm on Monday, when a man approached a driver in Canal Road.

He is alleged to have told the driver to hand over cash, but fled empty-handed.

The General Store in Grove Road, Strood

At around 6pm on the same day, the General Store in Grove Road was raided by a man who is said to have told staff to open the till.

Police arrested a man yesterday on suspicion of robbery.

Homeless Joseph Sharp, 33, has since been charged with robbery, attempted robbery and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon.

He went before Medway magistrates earlier today, where the case was adjourned until his appearance at Maidstone Crown Court on Saturday, August 20.
