Paul Godden, 35, of Gillingham, charged with robbery and attempted robbery at stores in Chatham

A man has been charged in an investigation into two reported robberies in Chatham.

Paul Godden, 35, of Stanley Road, Gillingham, was arrested on Friday and has been charged with robbery and attempted robbery.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

The Co-op in Wayfield Road, Chatham

On Tuesday, police received two reports of a man entering stores and threatening staff with a knife.

At 5.30pm, a man went into a shop in Luton High Street carrying a knife and demanded cigarettes. He left empty-handed.

Then at 9.15pm, officers received a report of a robbery at the Co-op store in Wayfield Road, Chatham.

Staff told detectives they were threatened with a knife and cash and cigarettes were taken.
