A man who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in relation to the death of Chatham father-of-one Michael Tierney, has been charged with two other offences.

Roop Masih, 40, was arrested after Mr Tierney, 33, was found with head injuries after being attacked in Haig Avenue on the White Road Estate in June.

Mr Tierney, of Glencoe Road, died in a London hospital two days later and police launched a murder inquiry.

Masih, of Dove Close, Chatham, was initially bailed while inquiries continued into the murder investigation until yesterday.

He has been released without charge in relation to assisting an offender.

Earlier today, police revealed they had charged Masih with two counts of possession of a weapon, namely CS Spray and a Taser gun.

He was bailed until November 2, when he will appear before magistrates in Medway.

Earlier this month, a Chatham woman admitted attempting to pervert justice in relation to the murder investigation.

Kelly Wicker, 27, of Haig Avenue, pleaded guilty to the charge when she appeared at Canterbury Crown Court earlier this month.

She will now remain in custody awaiting the outcome of the trial of two Chatham men accused of the murder of Mr Tierney.

William Fleming, 26, of White Road, and George French, 39, of Ansell Avenue, both answered “not guilty, your honour” during the 30-minute hearing.

They were also remanded to prison.

Their trial – which is expected to last up to four weeks – will begin in front of Judge Adele Williams in November.
