Man dies in hospital after being hit by train

A Medway man has died in hospital after being hit by a train.

The man, 40, was rescued from the line at Albany Park Railway Station, near Sidcup after being struck by a train travelling from Charing Cross to Gravesend.

The 5.10pm train was due to pull into the station at 5.50pm on Tuesday, June 2.

The driver is said to have reported seeing someone on the line, but was unable to stop the train in time.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene, while staff turned off power to the line until about 6.30pm.

The man, who is from the Walderslade area, has not been named.

He was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, where both his legs were amputated below the knee.

But he died at the hospital on Saturday, June 6.

British Transport Police are continuing to investigate the incident and an inquest into his death is due to be opened later this week.
