A man was taken to hospital with a back injury after slipping on his 40ft sailing boat yesterday (Sunday).

The accident meant two lifeboats from Sheerness, an all-weather lifeboat, four Medway coastguard officers, paramedics and an ambulance attended after a 999 call at 10.20am.

The man, thought to be in his 60s, was met at Gillingham Marina by paramedics, transferred to an ambulance and taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with non-life-threating injuries.

About 20 members of the emergency services were involved in the rescue.
Richard Rodgers, station officer for Medway Coastguard said: "This incident highlights how many different services are required when we have an injury on the water."

Anybody on the water with any problem should always dial 999 for the Coastguard.
