An elderly man has been taken to hospital after his car was involved in a collision with a lorry.

Emergency crews were called to Mierscourt Road in Rainham at about 11.17am this morning.

The side of the man's Toyota Prius had collided with the side of the lorry.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the driver's side door and the man was able to walk out of his car and onto a stretcher.

The road was closed in both directions for around half an hour.
