Pedestrian taken to hospital after being hit by Arriva bus in Sturdee Avenue, Gillingham, near Barnsole Primary School

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries after being hit by a bus.

The collision happened in Sturdee Avenue, Gillingham and involved a man walking a dog.

An Arriva bus was involved which was travelling near Barnsole Primary School at around 10.45am.

Two ambulance crews attended and paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to Medway Maritime Hospital. The dog, believed to be a bulldog, was killed.

Details of any injuries the man may have suffered are not yet known.

Police were also called and were seen controlling traffic and taking statements from passers-by.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said the casualty was transferred to the Gillingham hospital as a “priority” case.

Arriva South confirmed one of their vehicles was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

They said police were informed and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
