A pub where a mass brawl broke out during yesterday's England match has announced it will not be showing any more World Cup games.

Trouble flared at the Command House in Chatham after manager Gareth Southgate's team won a penalty shoot-out for the first time in its history beating Colombia.

A statement posted on the pub's Facebook page said: "First, we’d like to thank everyone that came down throughout the games to watch and who helped created a fantastic atmosphere.

"We’ve had a very constructive and supportive meeting with the Medway police licensing team who are happy to work with us to continue showing the World Cup, however, we have taken the internal decision that, despite the support and encouragement of the police licensing team, we are not prepared to continue to provide this service.

"We will not be showing any further World Cup games, including the England v Sweden game this coming Saturday 7th, and in addition any future football tournaments.

"Medway has now lost it’s opportunity to watch football tournaments, in what is one of it’s best outside spaces, because of the actions of a handful of idiots.

"We’ve also taken the decision to give the staff some much needed time off, after all of the hard work and effort they’ve put into the games so they can enjoy the forthcoming game at their leisure.

"We will be closed all day on Saturday 7th July.

"Finally, we’d like to extend a special thank you to the Medway police licensing team, all of the staff at The Command House and the video screen provider Video Illusions."
