Police at rave at Carpetright in Strood Retail Park

Hundreds of people took part in an illegal rave at a disused store.

There was a major police response to the party at the Carpetright in Strood Retail Park at 11.30pm last night, and one man was arrested.

Up to 10 police vehicles were parked outside the store while the ravers partied.

After leaving the store, young people were seen walking along Station Road, Strood, and outside Rochester train station.

Police confirmed a 39-year-old man from Ashford was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit a public order offence and supplying a psychoactive substance (nitrous oxide).

Police spokesman Steve Knight said: "Kent Police officers attended Strood Retail Park following reports of antisocial behaviour by young people travelling to the location.

"It was established that a suspected unlicensed music event was being held inside a disused warehouse with a significant number of people in attendance.

"Officers remained at the location to prevent any potential breach of the peace, ensure public safety and identify if any criminal offences had been committed.

"Inquiries are ongoing."

This morning, police officers were on scene conducting their investigations.

The shelled-out store was littered with empty bottles and there was discarded drug paraphernalia outside.
