Top cops in Medway are warning people to be aware of a financial scam which is currently operating across the county.

People living in the Towns have reported receiving a letter from Euromillones Loteria International, informing them that they have won a substantial amount of money in a Spanish based lottery.

Anyone who gets one of the letters is requested to contact a foreign services manager who will begin the claims process, but it is believed the telephone number provided is a premium rate line.

Chief Inspector Des Keers said: “If something looks too good to be true, it probably is.

“People should be very careful if they receive a letter such as this, particularly if they haven’t entered a foreign lottery.

“Some of the letters do look genuine and many have a Spanish stamp and postmark.

“We advise that you do not respond to the letter and certainly never provide personal details, such as bank account numbers.”
