A sports competition for disabled children has been cancelled after a power cut at Medway Park.

The annual Medway Disability Youth Games are part of the Medway Festival of Sport being held throughout this week.

The Games were to be the penultimate event, with the invitation-only Presentation Night and Dance Festival due to be held at Medway Park this afternoon.

A spokesperson for Medway Council said EDF engineers were working on the problem although it is not yet known how long it will take to resolve the issue.

The presentation evening may also be affected.

The Disability Youth Games are comprised of two competitions, one in the summer and one in the winter, and boast Paralympic legends Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson and Danny Crates as its patrons.

The Festival of Sport is run by Medway Council’s Sports Development and 2012 team and the Howard and Greenacre School Sports Partnerships.

Today's event was meant to include archery, athletics, boccia and cricket, as well as taster sessions in table cricket, polybat, sitting volleyball and ultimate and touch rugby.

Four schools were due to attend.

The council is in discussion with the schools to arrange another date for the summer Games.
