A Mercedes Benz burst into flames in a busy road this morning and fire crews had to use breathing apparatus to put out the flames.

The car caught alight in Maidstone Road, Rainham, near the junction of Kenilworth Drive.

A hose reel was used to douse the flames which engulfed the bonnet of the vehicle.

There are no reports of anyone being injured.

Firefighters from Rochester were called to the blaze at about 8.30am.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue confirmed there were no casualties and said the fire is thought to have started accidentally.
