Three Medway Messenger reporters are being put through their paces this week in preparation for the Three Peaks Challenge.

The trio is preparing to climb Britain's three highest mountains in just 24 hours in aid of CPC Kent.

And the group - Jenni Horn, Keyan Milanian and Sarah Shaffi - are being helped on their journey by Virgin Active in Medway, which has provided free use of its gym.

Personal trainers Damian Coates and Mitch Sherwood are this week putting the group through their paces, making sure they are in peak condition for the trek.

John McClory, general manager of the gym, said: "We're thrilled to be supporting the Medway Messenger team and are looking forward to helping them shape up for what's going to be a gruelling challenge."

The reporters now need the generous support of Medway Messenger readers to help reach a target of £1,500, which will all go to help children with cerebral palsy.

The team will have to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in just one day. Their journey starts at 6am on Saturday, May 8, with Ben Nevis in Scotland. Second on the list is Scafell Pike in Cumbria and the challenge will end at 5am on Saturday, May 9, at Snowdon in Wales.

CPC Kent runs the Smiley Steps Centre in Cliffe, which has to raise £250,000 a year to keep going. The centre is funded completely through voluntary donations and fundraising events like the Three Peaks Challenge.

Medway Messenger editor Bob Bounds said: "It's great to see our reporters getting involved with a local charity and supporting a much-needed cause.

"With the generous support of our readers I think the three will reach their fundraising target and maybe even smash it."
