A dad who has survived eight heart attacks, suffered major organ failure and had both legs amputated, has been described by his loving wife as her "miracle man".

Terry Burrell has spent the last six years in and out of intensive care wards fighting for his life after being diagnosed with kidney failure.

On several occasions his close-knit family, including wife Lorraine and children Lee, 25, Chloe, 24 and Becky, 14, have been told to fear the worst.

In the latest shocking medical incident this month, the 54-year-old had a heart attack before their eyes at St Thomas Hospital, London.

He stopped breathing for 10 minutes while an emergency team fought to revive him.

Lorraine, who lives with her husband in Grain, said: "We were ushered outside and were screaming 'fight' and 'don't go'.

Once again Terry, a previously healthy CCTV engineer, pulled through after undergoing vital surgery.

But the couple this week were facing another devastating blow as surgeons decide whether to amputate his right arm.

Fighting back tears, Lorraine, 44, said: "It has been a rollercoaster of emotions.

"He has surprised everyone, including the doctors. He is a true fighter, a miracle man who keeps coming back. That man is made of steel."

Lorraine, who has been with Terry for 23 years and married him two years ago, added: "He idolises his family. I'm sure that's what is keeping him going."

As a reminder, Lorraine has placed photographs of loved ones around his bedside.

Despite his harrowing ordeal, the keen fisherman, is trying to keep his sense of humour.

"He's very witty and tries to crack jokes when he can," added Lorraine. "He is strong, so we must all stay strong for him."

Apart from her determination to get her husband back to the family home in Seaview, she has another mission - to raise funds for the medical staff who have kept her husband alive.

She wants to raise £200 to buy treats for the medics who she describes as angels.
