Young footballers raised more than £2,000 for a charity which supports grieving families.

More than 130 boys and their loved ones from Strood 87 FC ran a mile around Wainscott field for Making Miracles.

The charity supports families who have high risk and life-threatening pregnancies and those who have lost a baby.

Members of Strood 87 football club took part in a sponsored run to raise money for Making Miracles

The event was organised as part of the charity’s April awareness month.

Its operations manager, Kelly Wells, said: “The money raised will enable us to continue to support families facing trauma and loss around their sick or lost babies and the difference the money will make is indescribable to people facing the worst time in their lives.

“We hope the campaign has raised awareness so more people hear about us and get in touch if they need and support with the baby memorial garden, a buddy or to see our professional counsellor.

“We are also still looking for volunteers, whether it be knitting, helping at the baby memorial garden or at events and stalls.” As well as the Miracle Mile, the charity held an egg hunt and has organised a ball at Priestfield Stadium, Redfern Avenue, Gillingham, on Saturday, May 13.

Tickets cost £37.50 per person and include a champagne reception, three-course meal and entertainment.
