Mum’s relief as school-run drink-driver who hit her son is jailed

The mother of a 10-year-old boy hit by a drunk driver has spoken of her delight after he was jailed.

Reena Madan’s son Armaan was walking home from school with his grandmother when Gary Ralph ploughed into him while almost five times the legal alcohol limit.

The 43-year-old accountant, pictured left, had his five-year-old twin daughters in his Lexus car when he crashed outside Hempstead Junior School.

He has now been jailed for 14 months and banned for three months after admitting dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.

Armaan was left with a fractured toe and had to have his foot in plaster.

Mrs Madan, of Horseshoe Close, Hempstead, said: “It’s a relief: I thought the justice system would be light on him, but I’m happy with that sentence. He deserved what he got.”
