A man who was found injured at his home later died in hospital from a wound to the back of his neck, it has been revealed.

Patrick Mannion was found with injuries at his home in Lonsdale Drive, Rainham, last December and died in a London hospital on New Year’s Day.

Police and forensic teams spent several days at his home and a woman, aged 56, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

At the time, police said Mr Mannion, 52, has suffered fatal head injuries.

Initially officers said they were treating the death as unexplained but following the results of a post mortem, police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The woman was released without charge.

Officers later delivered leaflets in the area to reassure other residents that no crime was committed.

An inquest into Mr Mannion’s death was opened at Archbishop’s Palace, in Maidstone, earlier this month and the cause of death was given as a penetrative wound to the back of the neck.

The inquest was adjourned and will be resumed later this year.
