The next step towards completing a town centre development is under way.

Medway Council's development arm, Medway Development Company, has applied to build 45 affordable flats beside the former Queen Street car park in Chatham.

If approved, they would form part of a wider development, with 179 flats divided between four blocks due to be built on an adjacent site after being approved by councillors in March.

The fresh plans for one and two-bedroom apartments include spaces for 20 cars.

The block would satisfy the need for a quarter of the homes across the Queen Street development to be affordable.

The site is currently owned by mhs homes and includes six houses which are planned to be demolished.

The proposals are set to be scrutinised by Monday, November 22.
