James Devine, chief executive of Medway NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Staff in our Emergency Department were delighted today to receive a delivery of Nando’s donated by our local Nando’s restaurant.

"All of our staff are working incredibly hard in extremely challenging and unprecedented times and it is wonderful gestures like this which can really make the difference. Thank you.”

A Nando’s spokesperson said: "Giving the team at Medway Hospital some peri-peri yesterday was the least we could do while they work so tirelessly under extremely stressful conditions. We hope it kept them going during their long shift."

The restaurant chain is also offering a blanket 50% discount for all NHS workers, which they announced earlier on their social media.

Nando's at the Dockside, Chatham is also planning to send out some free meals to healthcare staff at the end of the week.
