A nurse accused of falling asleep on the job is due before a professional hearing.

Susan Potter-Clarke is appearing before the Nursing and Midwifery Council charged with incompetence and misconduct.

While employed as a staff nurse for Medway Community Healthcare, Ms Potter-Clarke is accused of falling asleep during a nightshift on more than one occasion between January 2006 and December 2011 and sitting with her eyes closed, wrapped in a blanket while on duty.

She is also accused of being unable to demonstrate the appropriate level of clinical knowledge because she did not know what the normal blood sugar level should be for a diabetic patient and scored badly on two numeracy assessment practice test papers, scoring five out of 10 on one occasion and just two out of 10 on another.

The hearing at the Old Bailey is expected to last three days.
