The street-by-street route the Olympic torch will take through the Medway Towns has been revealed this morning.

The flame, which will spend longer in Kent than any other county in the UK, will visit Medway on its final day in the area on Friday, July, 20 when it will pass through Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester.

The iconic beacon will travel through the Towns on its 63rd day as it makes its way from Maidstone to Guildford, in Surrey.

People will be able to line the route to cheer as it makes its way to the capital in time for the opening ceremony just over a week later.

The visit will start at the proposed time of 7.50am in Gillingham on Canterbury Street, just off Crosley Road. It will then make its way to Skinner Street before turning left onto Jeffrey Street, veering right onto Arden Street and finally walking down the high street.

At 8.09am it will start its journey through Chatham passing through Brompton Road, Wood Street and Dock Road before turning right onto Globe Lane and then onto Medway Street as it passes through Chatham’s dynamic bus facility.

It will then head down the high street through Victoria Street to reach East Row, Rochester, for 8.42am.

The last part of the route will see it go through Vines Lane onto St Margaret’s Street where it will veer right onto Boley Hill for a short break before heading onwards to Corporation Street, down the high street and onto Commercial Road.

The flame will then follow the A2 along to Castle View Road before reaching the thank you for visiting Medway sign on the A226 Gravesend Road.

It will then continue its 70-day relay onto Gravesend.

The Olympic flame is estimated to be travelling 8,000 miles around the UK giving thousands of communities and individuals the chance to watch.

It will set off at Land's End on the morning of May 19 and finish at the Olympic Stadium for the start of the Games on Friday, July 27.
