More than 3,000 people have signed up to take part in the Medway Mile tonight (Friday) and registration is now full.

This family fun event has again proved hugely popular. It began in 2007 to mark the countdown to the London Olympics but has continued since 2012 due to public demand.
Medway Mayor Cllr Barry Kemp will start the race outside Rochester Castle at 7.30pm.

There are special runs for the children

If you haven’t signed up, you can still go along and try free activities themed around the 17 sports included in the Commonwealth Games, from an athletics fitness programme to a spin cycling tent and a hockey speed cage. Action from Glasgow will also be shown on the big screen at the Castle Gardens.

It is the eighth year the run has taken place after being launched as a countdown to the 2012 London Olympics but has been so successful that Medway Council has kept it going.
