Dropping cigarette butts has cost two people hundreds of pounds in fines and court costs.

Barry Britcher, 50, of Luton Road, Chatham, was issued with a fixed penalty notice when he was caught dropping a cigarette butt outside the Pentagon Centre in May 2016.

Zoe Jones, 30, of Walsingham Close, Parkwood, also received a fine for dropping a butt in the McDonalds car park in Beechings Way, Gillingham, in June 2016.

They both ignored reminders and were found guilty in their absence after ignoring summonses to appear at Medway Magistrates Court on January 9.

Both Britcher and Jones were fined £220, ordered to pay costs of £150 and a £30 victim surcharge.
