Chapter School, Strood launched a campaign against Medway Council's first academy plan unveiled last autumn. Council chiefs have since given the go-ahead.

Children at two Medway schools were given letters to take home today that could shape their future education.

Just months after giving the go-ahead for the merger of Temple and Chapter Schools in Strood Medway Council has revealed a further shake-up.

A fresh wave of consultation is to take place that could result in a second 1,200 pupil academy on a single site by 2012.

The University for the Creative Arts has already agreed to be the co-sponsor of the first academy which will replace the merged Temple/Strood school, a decision which provoked months of protest by staff and parents.

It is understood the Council has already lined up potential sponsors for the second academy resulting from the merger of a further two Medway schools, details of which have been officialy embargoed until Monday.

The pupils are being promised a new state-of-the-art school by 2013. Until then the academy will run on the two existing sites.
