It’s just another magic Monday with two Brits in Wimbledon’s last 16 - and tennis fever has certainly caught on in Medway.

Hundreds of young pretenders turned out to the Frindsbury Lawn Tennis Club yesterday for a free open day.

Amateurs could hire racquets and balls for free at the club in Upnor Road, Upnor, which hosted a barbecue and bar.

The car park overflowed as children were given free training, shaking hands over the net.

Club treasurer Peter Marshall said: “We chose the middle weekend of Wimbledon and there’s no play at Wimbledon on a Sunday. Certainly with the youngsters it’s been brilliant.”

Our reporter gets some coaching tips - in Friday’s Medway Messenger.
