Review by Alan McGuinness

This might have been the fourth time Status Quo have played the Castle Concerts, but their brand of toe-tapping rock has yet to grow old.

Everyone was on their feet from the first song until the last. The band might have been round the block a few times, releasing a staggering one hundred singles in the process, but they ran through their back catalogue of hits seamlessly, one blast of rock followed quickly by another.

The biggest cheers were reserved for their two most well known hits - Rockin’ All Over the World and Whatever You Want, which came at the end of an energetic set lasting around 90 minutes.

Lead singer Francis Rossi was in great form, joking that it felt like they’d taken up residence at the Castle due to the frequency of their performances.

He also made light of the band’s advancing years, joking that the sell-out crowd might see a death that night.

I went with my uncle, a mad Quo fan over from New Zealand. He’s seen the band more than 20 times over the years and went away beaming after the performance, a measure of how good it was.

You know what you’re going to get with Status Quo, and they delivered.
