Chatham fire investigation sees police appeal for witnesses to Hartington Street blaze

Detectives investigating a suspected arson attack at a home have asked for the public to help with their investigation.

Two boys, aged 12, were questioned after the incident on Saturday evening in Hartington Street, Chatham.

Neighbours rushed outside to help firefighters tackle the flames which ripped through gardens shortly before 6pm.

The huge blaze caused a fireball in the garden of one property and sent smoke billowing high into the sky.

Police were called to the incident and are treating the fire as suspicious.

The two boys were questioned under caution by officers and a full investigation is taking place to establish the circumstances.

They were released pending further inquiries.

Firefighters were trying to stop flames spreading to homes and found sheds and fences damaged.
