Prayers have been said for a woman who died after being hit by her learner-driver daughter.

Sue Duke, 41, was fatally injured while helping 17-year-old Lauren reverse her car in the car park of Cuxton Social Club, in Bush Road, last Monday.

Ms Duke was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital with serious head injuries, where she died on Wednesday evening.

Ms Duke, of Cecil Avenue, Strood, had lived in Cuxton most of her life, and worked at the social club as a steward.

She had three children - Lauren, daughter Brogan, 21, and 10-year-old son Callum - with her ex-husband.

On Sunday, prayers were said at church services at St Michael's and All Angels, Cuxton, and later at St John the Baptist, Halling.

Reverend Roger Knight, who conducted both services, christened Lauren and conducted the service at Sue's wedding. He said the thoughts of the community were with her family.

He said: "Everyone I have spoken to is devastated. People feel a very deep sadness for them.

"What everyone is thinking is how difficult it must be for Lauren to come to terms with. I am sure Sue would not want Lauren's life to be ruined by this."

Visitors to our website have been leaving their condolences.

A Cuxton resident wrote: "What a lovely lady. She was such a happy lady, never heard a bad word from her about anyone. She was kind and would help anyone in trouble."

Another wrote: "This is so sad. All my love and thoughts go to the family especially the kids. Such a tragic accident."

Details of a post-mortem examination and the opening of the inquest have not yet been released by police.
