A family of Lemurs have managed to escape the heatwave thanks to their new enclosure.

The team from Fenn Bell pub zoo want to say thank you to everyone who has helped their new lemur enclosure become a reality.

In August last year the zoo rescued Ted the Lemur.

After doing some research zoo owner Andy Cowell discovered Ted's family were at a zoo in Bedfordshire.

By October the family of six lemurs were re-united.

They moved into their new home on Wednesday, July 25 and are enjoying their new jumping ropes and platforms.

In direct sunlight lemurs can get heat exhaustion so the new shelter's shaded areas have helped the group survive the heatwave.

Pub zoo owner Andy Cowell said: "It's been a big community effort everyone has come together to make this happen

"We raised £5000 on a just giving page so thanks to everyone who donated on that.

"The rest of the money came from our gate fee so everyone who comes in has helped the lemurs.

"We also want to say thank you to Mark and Niki Aldred from All Hallows who donated the glass."

Two boys from Ifield School, Gravesend, Tom, Preys and their teachers Anita Ward, Susan Scott helped build the enclosure.

The Zoo's next project is to build a new otter enclosure.
