A driver lost control of his sports car and landed upside down 20 feet down an embankment near the entrance of the Medway Tunnel in Strood early this morning.

The man, in his 40s, had to direct rescue crews to his whereabouts on his mobile phone as the two-seater Vauxhall VX20 was hidden in brambles.

Paramedics, called to the accident at about 6.30am, treated him for cuts and bruises.

Strood firefighters, who were first at the scene, prised him out of the vehicle and turned it upright.

Crew manager Pete Sanderson said: "Luckily, he remained conscious and was able to tell us where he was. When we got there he was hanging upside down in his seat belt."
