Police closed a road in both directions and traffic was diverted after an “incident”.

Arriva bus services were among the vehicles being rerouted to avoid the A230 Horsted Way in Chatham.

The road was reportedly blocked in both directions due to a police incident between The Ridgeway and A229 City Way.

Arriva Kent posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, just after 6.30pm that buses heading for Chatham were being diverted via City Way and Pattens Lane but Maidstone-bound buses were unaffected.

However, in an update just after 7pm, the firm said Horsted Way was now closed in both directions so all buses on the 101 route were now on diversion.

Traffic information service Inrix said in an update at 8.30pm the road had cleared and the police incident was over.
