A major road has reopened after a crash between a van and car left five injured.

The A228 - the main road on and off the Isle of Grain - was closed both ways after the accident just after 1pm near The Street, Lower Stoke, this afternoon.

Traffic was being diverted through Lower Stoke until 4pm, when the road reopened.

Police are appealing for information.

Five people are thought to have been injured, but none seriously.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were all called to the scene, including two fire crews from Strood station.

No one was trapped but firefighters helped the casualties get out of the vehicles, before they were taken to hospital by ambulance.
