Search for missing man from High Halstow called off after body found

Police have called off the search for a missing man from High Halstow, near Rochester, following the recovery of a body from the River Medway.

Formal identity has not yet taken place however the family of Gary Stapley, 46, who was last known to have been in Gravesend on June 3, have been made aware.

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

On Thursday officers searched along the Borstal and Cuxton stretches of the Medway River, as a helicopter was seen circulating the area from above.

The search continued into the weekend.
