Sebastian Coe and Jeremy Hunt at Medway Park

Children got to show off their sporting skills to Olympic gold medallist Sebastian Coe.
The former athlete and chairman of the organising committee for the 2012 London Games visited Medway Park in Gillingham on Friday .
He was joined by Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport.
During the visit, part of Mr Hunt’s nationwide Olympic tour, it was announced Medway Park will host a regional final of the new School Games.
The competition, to be held for the first time next year to
coincide with the Olympics
coming to the UK, aims to
transform competitive sport in schools and get more young people aged four to 16 active.
Open to all schools, there will be three levels of competition; class vs class, school vs school and then county-wide sports festivals.
The final will be held at the Olympic Park in London. Schools have until the end of the year to sign up.
Lord Coe said: “The School Games is a fantastic opportunity for young people to be inspired by sport.
“It is great to see so many schools already signed-up and I look forward to seeing them achieving their personal bests and cheering on their teams’ mates in the Olympic Park
venues next year.”
During the visit, Lord Coe and Mr Hunt were given a tour of the facilities at Medway Park and watched sporting demonstrations by primary school pupils.
Mr Hunt said it was great to see school children being so
enthusiastic about sport.
He added: “This is what the Olympic dream was when Lord Coe helped to win the Olympic Games for London. The dream was to create a sporting legacy for young people.
“The facilities at Medway Park are excellent, what better advert for the kind of legacy the London 2012 can create.”
