Snow update: all roads open

Gritting teams and diggers have cleared ice and snow from all of Medway's roads.

There are now no reports of any roads shut due to the adverse weather after teams spent last night and today clearing the Towns.

Teams had to use a specially hired JCB digger to cut ice from badly affected roads, especially in High Halstow, Cooling and the A228.

Following the clearing a gritter with a snow plough was used.

The JCB was also used to clear the coach park at Gas House Lane in Rochester in preparation for the arrival of visitors to this weekend's Dickensian Christmas Festival.

Car parks at Blue Boar Lane and Corporation Street in Rochester are being trated and ploughed this afternoon.

Waste and recycling collections are still suspended and Medway’s waste recycling centres are currently closed.

Medway Council is aiming to resume services as quickly as possible.

The council’s teams normally used to collect household waste and to sweep streets are still clearing high street pavements and some of the main car parks of snow as well

Capstone and Riverside Country Parks are closed today.

Elsewhere, the Visitor Information Centre in in Rochester and the Medway Archive centre are open.

The Guildhall Museum and Rochester Castle are closed but due to open tomorrow for the Dickensian Christmas Festival and the Dickens Christmas Market.

Splashes leisure centre is due to open at 10am on Saturday.
