Children at a nursery in Strood have been making soup for the homeless.

The youngsters, aged three and four, from Cherub Montessori Day Nursery in Castle View Road, were taken to Morrisons by staff to choose fresh fruit and vegetables.

They made vegetable soup from the ingredients they had chosen including potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onions and swede.

The children then decided that they wanted to give the soup to the House of Mercy homeless hostel in Gravesend.

Gina Frain, nursery manager, said: “Montessori teaches children life skills and they chose the fruit and vegetables themselves and they decided what they wanted to do with it and they got to see the end result.

“I’m so proud of our young children – they know that the soup is going to feed someone else, it’s wonderful.”
