An amateur photographer was given the exciting opportunity to capture these stunning pictures along the River Medway.

Marcel Fernandes, the former manager of Canterbury camera store Jessops, has pursued his passion despite being made redundant last year.

Marcel was asked if he wanted to join hovercraft owner Mark Coyler on a trip after he captured a video of him travelling down the River Medway.

He accepted and captured these beautiful pictures, including shots of Upnor Castle, a Russian submarine and seals resting at Damhead Creek.

"I was out taking videos on my drone at The Strand about five months ago," the 50-year-old said.

"The guy was on his hovercraft and I was trying to chase it with my drone, which wasn’t going very well, and I made a video of it."

He shared the video on Facebook and was contacted by a friend who said they knew him and asked if he wanted to send it.

The hovercraft owner, Mark Colyer, said it was fantastic and asked Marcel if he wanted to join him on a trip.

Now the duo are going on regular trips - to Marcel’s delight.

He had never been on a hovercraft before, which are arguably quite a rare sight in the UK.

Six employees at Jessops in Canterbury, including Mr Fernandes, were handed redundancy letters before the store was immediately dismantled ahead of its unceremonious closure.

The former manager, who had worked at the firm for 18 years and the city store for six, said his store was making a profit but had to close due to the pricey rent.
