Woman in her 20s treated for smoke inhalation after flat fire in Scholars Rise, Strood

A young woman had to be treated for smoke inhalation after her flat caught fire in suspicious circumstances this morning.

Two crews, from Strood and Thames-side, were called out to Scholars Rise, Strood, at 2am.

SECAmb and Kent Police also attended and the woman, in her 20s, had to be treated for breathing in the smoke.

It took 10 firefighters just under an hour to put out the blaze.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "The cause is thought to be suspicious and Kent Police will be liaising with fire investigators."

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to tackle the fire.
