More than 20 schools are closed or partially closed in Medway today.

Varying levels of disruption are expected across many schools as members of the National Union of Teachers go on strike.

Luton Infants, Luton Juniors and the St Thomas of Canterbury RCP School, with the exception of the morning nursery session, will be closed completely during the day.

Another 20 schools, grammar schools and academies will only be welcoming in a select few of their pupils.

The NUT cancelled its planned one-day strike in November and postponed action in February to continue talks with education minister Michael Gove.

But they say little progress has been made and Mr Gove is not listening to the concerns of teachers.

An NUT spokesman said they would be striking against an "excessive workload and bureaucracy, performance related pay and unfair pension changes".

The National Association of School Masters and the Union of Women Teachers (NAS/UWT) announced last week they will not be taking part in the strike.

Schools in Medway said that while they will endeavour to keep classes running, disruption for some pupils seems inevitable.

Arrangements for the 23 schools which are closed or partially closed:

• Barnsole Federation: One Year 6 class closed; one Year 5 class closed; two Year 4 classes closed; three Year 3 classes closed.
• Bligh Federation: Closed to Years 2 and 5. Partially open to to reception, Year 1, Year 4 and year 6.
• Greenvale: One Year 2 class closed and two Year 1 classes closed.
• Luton Infants: CLOSED
• Luton Juniors: CLOSED
• St Helens CEP School: Closed to Years 1, 4 and 6
• St Marys RCP School: Eight year groups affected.
• St Michaels RCP School: Afternoon closure to Year 5.
• St Thomas of Canterbury RCP School: CLOSED (except for morning nursery session)
• Temple Mill: Closed to Year 3
• Thamesview School: Reception closed.
• Saxon Way: Closed to Years 4, 5 and 6
• Elaine: One Year 3 class closed and one reception class closed
• Bishop of Rochester Academy:Open only to Years 11, 12 and 13.
• Chatham Boys: Closed to Years 7, 8, 9, 10
• Hundred of Hoo: Closed to all except Years 11, 12, 13
• Rochester Grammar: Partially open to Years 7 and 8
• Greenacre: Year 11 exams week continues, some lessons for Years 12 and 13, otherwise closed.
• Thomas Aveling: Closed to Years 7, 8, 9 and 10
• Walderslade Girls: Closed Years 7, 8, 9 and 10
• Strood Academy: Closed to Years 8 and 9
• Brompton Academy: Open to exam students only
• The Robert Napier School: No information

Teachers will gather at the Three Daws Pub in Gravesend at 10am before another rally at St Thomas' Hall is held in Canterbury at 10.30am.
