A teenage boy has died after falling ill at a young offenders institute.

Caden Stewart, 16, was an inmate at Cookham Wood in Sir Evelyn Road, Borstal, Rochester, and passed away at King's College Hospital on Thursday, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.

His death, following a medical incident at the site which holds 165 boys, is not being treated as suspicious.

A prison service spokesman said: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”
