Animal lovers have raised £2,169 for a cat that was dumped at the side of Salisbury Road, Chatham.

A JustGiving page was set up by Bredhurst Cats Protection to help fund the Ragdoll's medical bills.

Artex, a name given to him by his rescuers, was missing his right eye and has now undergone surgery to seal the socket shut.

He was found inside a cat carrier wrapped in a bin bag by a member of the public on January 24.

Hannah Ashwell, Cats Protection's regional fundraising manager, said: "It was clear that Artex needed immediate care.

"Our vets have been working to provide the pain relief, antibiotics and veterinary care necessary for his welfare."

When recovered, Artex will be placed with an adopter to help him recover and begin the road to recovery.
